RUDEŠ – CRADLE OF THE ZAGREB FOOTBALL

In Rudeš football was start to play in the middle of the last century.

In earlier fifties of the last century, on the meadow called “Celina” in the Rudeš football was start to play. Young generations don’t know that meadow “Celina” was place where today is clinic. Exactly from that place new generations of the Zagreb players later will go on the stadiums across Croatia and Europe.

According to Ivan Šantek (Hajba), in Rudeš all the history about football was start on the meadow “Celina” early fifties.

A few boys gathered on the meadow “Celina” was create simple “krpenjača”. “Krpenjača” is old expression for ball made of simple rags. Shortly after that came out real madness for that unusual thing which will become the most important sideshow thing on the world.  New born players were roast by the parents because they were gathering football team. However love for football was too strong and every day was stronger. Boys who are kicked the ball on the meadows in Rudeš has became boys which wants bigger challenges.

There was among them a lot talented boys, which will ultimately they ways of life confirmed. Now we must mention old Rudeš legends. Ivan Šantek Junior (which has in that time epithet: Star of the Zagreb football). Ivan Šantek Senior (his nickname Hajba was wide known, his career was well known by goals to Zagreb opponents like HAŠK, Zagreb etc.) who was late becomes a coach (first coach from Rudeš who has coach license). Unavoidable is that Hajba have an important role in founding NK Rudeš 1957.

Whit that all, we come to indisputable fact that our small community give lot of football players and football coaches. All that tells us, that Rudeš has, and now have important role in playing football in Zagreb and Zagreb sport life.

RUDEŠ – PRIDE AND DEFIANCE OF ZAGREB

Rodos – Latin name for Rudeš
First written documents that which mentions Rudeš was from XIII century. Rudeš was (with Vrapče, Grmoščicu and Završje) belong to Zagreb Kaptol. According to document (1221.), Andrija II (1205. – 1235.), Croatian and Hungary king returns back Ban Okić  land located in Kamešnica (Kalnik) and church of Zagreb (that was church land) gives in the replacement land Rodos, Viduše, Kupuk and Brate.

Archaeological excavations (1896.) confirm finding old urn on the area of Rudeš and Jarun. Further archaeological excavations (1897. and 1898.) confirm presence of Roman civilization. Before that Rodos become property of the Zagreb Kaptol it was, probably, free land of the Royal County. Until middle of the XIV century, Zagreb Kaptol was connect area of Vrapče, Grmoščica, Završje and Rudeš in the one unit. Rudeš village has not have church, Rudeš church was saint Barbara church in the Vrapče (today upper Vrapče). Rudeš was found his church 1942. ( saint Ana church) but that church was built 1967. In the time of Franjo Josip (1850.) comes to unification of all Zagreb field into free Royal city – Zagreb. But and then, area of Rudeš and Jarun remain out of Zagreb (until world war II).

On the elections for the National parliament (1935.) Croatian Peasant Party (Croatian – HSS) and Croatian community have recived lots of votes. In Rudeš, HSS and his president Stjepan Radić has lots of voters. HSS newspaper called “National Wave” number 6. (published in Zagreb 23. July 1927.) has recorded meeting in Rudeš (year before Stjepan Radic was assassinated in Belgrade). National parliamentarians Vinko Trnjar has reported that meeting was held on the suggestion of the Stjepan Družek in Kustošija and from speaking with people from Rudeš, Viko Trnjar convinced his self that: “People from Rudeš very good follow attacks on party and president of the party Stjepan Radić”.

Rudeš village no longer exist . Only the name exist in the names of the Rudeš streets (Rudeška cesta, Rudeški odvojak and few Rudeški ogranak) and in the name of regional office. Only has survived old cooperative house, today that house is cultural monument.

RUDEŠ – LITTLE COMMUNITY WITH BOG SOUL

Rudeš community looks like triangle which is located in the west side of Zagreb. From west side is bounded with street called Zagrebačka cesta, from east side is bounded partly with street called Ulica Dragutina Golika and stream called Kustošak and from south is bounded with avenue called Zagrebačka avenija. With their committed residents, Rudeš does what today is unusual (huge love toward community with slogan MY COMMUNITY, MY STREETS which doesn’t stay only on words than there is in the work of residents of Rudeš). Residents of Rudeš are in every chance own people (recognizable) and they always promote three moral thing (Religion, Love and Motherland), so be kind and honest to them and they will know to return that.
